'Bairn's Kist' CD

Give a new generation their first taste of Scottish tradition with the newly released "Bairn’s Kist". This CD is full of musical memories for the grown ups with lullabies, dandling songs, singing games and playground songs.

Traditionally, dandling is a way a grandparent or other family member can entertain a child, as in "Wee Chookie Birdie" and "Hey Jock ma Cuddy". These songs and actions help babies and toddlers with muscle development and balance, give them a feeling for rhythm, and help them get to grips with language and speech sounds.

There are 25 songs here, including "Three Craws", "Aiken Drum", "Wee Willie Winkie", "I had a Wee Hen", "Kittie Berdo" , "Gille Beag o" , "Brochan Lom", "Chuir iad mise Eilean leam fhin".

"Bairn’s Kist" features versions of traditional Scottish songs used in the "Learning with Lullabies" project for parent, baby and toddler groups in the Highlands. The project was generated by the Care and Learning Alliance to encourage parents to use singing and lullabies to bond and communicate with their young children, building confidence as parents and developing their musical awareness.
